Professional Development Award

Develop your teaching skills with the Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award. This award is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, especially those teachers who are new to the field. The award is given annually to support the attendance of pre-collegiate (including heritage school) and collegiate teachers at training workshops, seminars, conferences, and other in-service learning experiences at local, national, or international levels; and/or to collaborate with a mentor teacher. Teacher training workshops and seminars attended by the applicant should be focused on Chinese, Japanese or Korean pedagogy and issues of teaching and learning these languages; those winners of the award will be asked to provide a brief synopsis of their conference experience. The fund has designated an annual amount of $1,000 to be divided between at least two teachers each year. Teachers are urged to leverage additional funding from their schools or other sources to enable them to participate in professional development activities. We hope that these grants will be helpful in increasing the pool of excellent teachers for the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language fields. Read a speech given by Cheng & Tsui President Jill Cheng at the CLTA General Membership Meeting on November 17th, 2000 regarding the start of the Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award for Chinese teachers. http://clta-us.org/awards/ct-fund-speech.htm

New teachers in the field are encouraged to apply.

Winners will be announced at the ACTFL Annual Conference in November.
