Sales and Marketing Manager

Cheng & Tsui, the leading publisher of Asian language print and digital textbooks, is seeking an energetic and results-driven Sales & Marketing Manager. The ideal candidate has a background in educational publishing and will drive growth, build brand awareness, and create market demand internationally by effectively managing the Sales and Marketing teams. This position will be an approximate 30% marketing and 70% sales management role. On the marketing side, the Manager will oversee multi-channel marketing plans based on expert product knowledge and customer insights. The Manager will train sales and marketing staff to create and use engaging product descriptions, response-driven copy, and compelling messaging. The Manager will develop and lead strategic sales activities for the inside sales representatives, who function primarily as consultative product experts. The Manager will provide strategies for successfully managing a territory through the effective use of CRM tools, following up on leads, providing timely and accurate information for customer decision-making, and closing sales. The Sales & Marketing Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a collaborative sales culture within the team through mentoring and developing protocols for best practices. This is a “hands-on” role and requires someone with the ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. Keen interest in global education and/or bilingual ability in Chinese are very much a plus.


  • Provide overall direction and planning for national and international sales and marketing operations for Asian language and culture educational print and digital textbooks.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources to attain an optimal mix of inbound and outbound sales and marketing activities.
  • Develop and implement strategic sales and marketing plans to achieve annual and long-term company revenue goals supported by data analysis, forecasting while maintaining cost-effective budgets that align with sales projections.
  • Train, manage, and mentor the inside sales and marketing teams by providing  ongoing sales and product training and analyzing monthly sales, and marketing  activities.
  • Manage state and district adoptions bids and RFPs.
  • Train, manage, and mentor a junior marketing team that effectively addresses customer needs through print and digital marketing media with the goals of stimulating revenue growth, generating sales leads, and increasing brand recognition and reputation.
  • Review and approve sales and marketing copy, messaging, and design of print and digital media, such as company catalogs and website.
  • Oversee the planning and scheduling of national exhibits, PD workshops, and trade shows.
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative market intel to the product development team to help identify new product opportunities, evaluate product proposals, and communicate user feedback on existing products relevant to future revisions.
  • Develop competitive pricing strategies while maintaining reasonable margins.
  • Manage all aspects of Salesforce by ensuring all customer data is entered timely and accurately by sales reps for optimum utilization of the reporting tools.
  • Manage the growth of the customer email database and its maintenance.  
  • Analyze processes and workflows to increase productivity and incorporate best practices.
  • Hire, train, and manage staff as needed, performing all related HR responsibilities.
  • Report monthly on all sales and marketing activities to the President and CEO; provide analysis and recommendations for action.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Five years’ hands-on experience in sales and/or marketing, preferably in K-12 and Higher Ed educational publishing with knowledge of the school adoption process and sales cycles.
  • Minimum of  2 years’ experience supervising or managing a sales and/or marketing team.
  • Strong and successful consultative sales and marketing background and ability to train and develop new and junior staff.
  • Experience using CRM, preferably Salesforce, and strong analytical skills to use data to drive creative and effective sales and marketing efforts. 
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
  • Effective people training, managerial, and leadership skills that are compatible with a collaborative work environment.
  • Love for education, pedagogy, and Asian languages and cultures are a plus.

Bilingual Sales Account Representative

Cheng & Tsui, the leading publisher in Asian language and culture textbooks and supplements, is seeking individuals wishing to advance the field of language learning by working to pair educators with excellent teaching materials. This can be an entry level position; training with products, programs, and internal processes will be provided. However, experienced representatives are preferred and encouraged to apply. 

An inside sales account representative oversees and executes all steps of the pipeline within an assigned territory from lead generation to closing sales. It is expected that a representative will help develop and execute strategic sales plans to contact language teachers, professors, and administrators at the K-12 School and Higher Education levels within an assigned territory to promote and sell textbooks, supplements, and digital products while representing the company. Ideal candidates will have a passion for Asian language and culture education, a positive attitude, as well as the ability to work diligently and independently.


  • Manage a sales territory to increase annual baseline sales within an assigned territory through targeted outreach
  • Develop multi-channel outreach strategies with management to increase reputation and recognition of company through outbound sales calls, emails, etc. 
  • Create and maintain customer records by inputting, updating and tracking all leads in our Customer Relationship Management (Salesforce) database
  • Build an active pipeline of prospective customers and new accounts 
  • Utilize company training and policies to address the needs of existing and prospective customers
  • Develop and maintain positive, long-term professional relationships with customers
  • Respond promptly and accurately to customer questions about products, prices, and availability
  • Convey product features based on analyses of customer needs and knowledge of product features 
  • Recommend the correct products or assist customers in making product selections based on their needs and product specifications 
  • Conduct product presentations based on customer needs (i.e. technology in the classroom, benefits of program at given level, how to teach using the materials, etc.)
  • Travel to exhibit at conferences or attend classrooms as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues in editorial and marketing to exchange customer feedback, market information, and sales and marketing strategies
  • Review and fill out documents consisting of print and digital textbook adoption requirements from school districts and states as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues in editorial and marketing to prepare pedagogical correlations of products against different state and national standards
  • Help to interview and select new hires in sales and marketing departments
  • Meet or exceed the annual sales goal(s) for the assigned territory


  • Bachelor's Degree required

Position Description

Creates and edits content for a variety of print and digital Chinese language learning materials. Within a project, coordinates and reviews the work of authors; edits and prepares manuscript; edits typeset pages (print or digital); shares products’ highlights with sales and marketing

Major Responsibilities

  • Help develop middle school, high school, and/or college Chinese and other Asian language-learning materials
  • Write lesson plans, exercises, rubrics, and other instructional content
  • Edit manuscripts prepared by in-house and outside authors for clarity, organization, content, and pedagogy in accordance with project guidelines and company standards of quality
  • Review, copy edit, proofread, style tag textbook manuscripts, digital content, audio, video, eBooks, and marketing pieces
  • Develop and check page layouts, and implement all steps in the production of assigned projects
  • Collaborate with Production in scheduling, tracking, and releasing project materials
  • Work closely with Marketing to communicate project details and specifications for marketing/sales efforts
  • Participate in promotional webinars and in-person product presentations and training
  • Conduct competitive analysis of print and digital products, report findings, and train sales reps on the current competition

  • Native English reading and writing skills; excellent reading and writing proficiency in Chinese with knowledge of pinyin

Customer Service and Technical Support Specialist

Leading textbook publisher of print and digital educational products in the areas of Asian languages and cultural studies seeks someone committed to providing excellent customer service and technical support.  


  • Provide outstanding customer service by handling phone and email inquiries about print and digital products, processing phone, fax, and online orders and requests for quotations, and handling returns and past due accounts in a timely manner
  • Assist customers with digital products and fulfill sample requests
  • Monitor and troubleshoot customer-reported issues, engaging directly with customers on first-line customer support of the ChengTsui Web App and other digital products; forward customer-reported issues to digital team as needed
  • Collect customer feedback; collaborate with digital and other teams on improvements to digital products
  • Help with in-house computer setup needs and serve as contact for remote third-party IT vendors for network servers
  • Perform backup bookkeeping role in invoicing, credit review, collections
  • Support in other areas as needed


  • Minimum 5 years’ customer service and technical support experience 
  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, utilizing websites, with high comfort using and supporting technology
  • Familiarity with ERPs assumed and CRMs (Salesforce) a plus 
  • High comfort with computers and technology generally
