Bilingual Chinese/English Editor (Full-time and Part-time)

Leading publisher of educational materials in the areas of Asian languages and cultural studies for the K-12 and higher education markets seeks an experienced bilingual Chinese/English editor to join its growing team.

Position Description

Title: Editor*

Position Summary

Within a project, coordinates and reviews work of authors; edits and prepares manuscript; collaborate with design/ production and edits typeset pages (print and digital); shares products’ highlights with sales and marketing



  • Help develop K-12 and/or college Chinese and other Asian language-learning materials
  • Edit manuscripts prepared by in-house and outside authors for accuracy, clarity, organization, content, and pedagogy in accordance with project guidelines and company standards of quality
  • Review, copy edit, proofread, style tag textbook and ancillary manuscripts, online and digital content, audio, video, and eBooks, plus marketing pieces
  • Communicate effectively with authors, freelancers, designers, and others to maintain schedule and quality of manuscripts through final files
  • Prepare manuscripts, develop or check page layouts, and implement all steps in the production of assigned projects
  • Collaborate with Production in scheduling, tracking, and releasing project materials on time
  • Work closely with Marketing to communicate project details and specifications for marketing/sales efforts as needed
  • Participate in promotional webinars and in-person product presentations and training
  • Attend relevant workshops and help at conferences when appropriate
  • Conduct competitive analysis of print and digital products, report findings, and train sales reps on the current competition
  • Review manuscript submissions when requested
  • Perform other duties as needed and requested



  • Excellent English reading and writing skills; native-level reading and writing proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style or equivalent and minimum of three years’ experience in editing and project management
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong and focused work ethic
  • Knowledge of foreign language pedagogy from teaching preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and follow-through
  • Love for Asian languages, cultures, and global education a must

Marketing and Communications Associate (Full-time)

For 39 years, Cheng & Tsui has been the premier publisher of exemplary Asian language educational resources. We pursue our mission of “Bringing Asia to the World” by publishing a variety of market-leading Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic resources for the K-12 and higher education markets.

Cheng & Tsui is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and motivated Marketing Communications Associate to conceptualize and develop strategically aligned copy for print, digital, and content marketing collateral.  Candidates must demonstrate versatile copy writing skills in addressing the needs of teachers and school administrators of Grades K-12 and higher education students in Asian languages and cultures.  Responsibilities include developing multi-channel promotional materials from conception to completion. Firm deadlines, quick turnaround times, and fluctuating workloads are common for this position requiring time management and organizational skills.


  • Conceptualize and execute timely promotional campaigns consisting of direct-mail catalogs, email blasts, e-commerce web site, listserv announcements, press releases, conference brochures and flyers, space advertising, and social media to increase sales leads and company’s visibility.
  • Assume primary responsibility for all duties related to conference selecting, planning, and exhibiting, including shipping, tracking, vendor management, and inventory control.
  • Collaborate with Editorial and Sales teams to conceptualize and write informative and engaging copy reflecting key selling points and pedagogical strengths of each product while branding company’s pioneering status in the field.
  • Compose and distribute press releases, newsletters, blogs, podcasts related to success stories, new product releases, authors, awards and other newsworthy events.
  • Accomplish all campaigns within agreed upon budgets, always seeking competitive bids for outside services such as manufacturing and mailing services for print collaterals.
  • Track success of campaigns with metrics which measure costs against sales results or increased web traffic or hot leads to help build sales team’s pipeline.  
  • Develop and update attractive monthly and special features of interest to teachers and learners to drive new web traffic for sales leads.
  • Execute comprehensive and effective social media plans.
  • Collaborate with sales team to develop sales tools such as concise product tip sheets for use during sales calls, signage and collateral for conferences and product webinar presentations.
  • Research, organize, and manage competitive information & relevant industry information/trends to share with sales and editorial teams. Help identify talented teachers and help them compose teacher training workshop proposals for conference submissions.
  • Collaborate on the formulation of annual marketing plan.


  • Bachelor's degree preferred with 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • Proficient use of MS Office Suite products.
  • Persuasive and collaborative interpersonal skills combined with initiative
  • Organized, thorough, detail-oriented, with excellent planning and follow-through skills
  • Experience in event planning and execution
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications for print and social media
  • Direct relevant marketing experience to include project management, creative sensibility, SEO
  • Experience with web content/user interface, Indesign, and related technologies
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics and other analytics tools
  • Strong interest in Asian languages and cultures, language teaching pedagogy, and the company’s mission important for effective writing and messaging
