Celebrating Pedagogical Innovation – 2024–2025 Teng Prize Winner Announced

May 6, 2025

Cheng & Tsui is proud to announce the recipient of the 2024–2025 Shou-hsin Teng Pedagogical Innovation Prize, presented in conjunction with the CLTA-USA Annual Conference on May 10, 2025, in New York City.

Established in honor of Professor Shou-hsin Teng 鄧守信, a pioneering figure in Chinese linguistics and language pedagogy, this annual Cheng & Tsui endowment award recognizes faculty at the collegiate level  in the United States who demonstrate innovation in Chinese language instruction. Professor Teng’s career was defined by his dedication to developing effective teaching materials, mentoring future educators, and advancing the field through both scholarship and practice.

This year’s award goes to:

Dr. Jun Lang 郎珺, Pomona College
Project Title: “AI-Supported Pronunciation Learning: Pedagogical Innovation for Beginner L2 Chinese Learners Beyond the Classroom”

Dr. Lang’s project leverages artificial intelligence to support beginner Chinese language learners in mastering pronunciation beyond the classroom setting. By integrating technology with pedagogy, her work empowers students with personalized feedback and flexible learning opportunities—an approach that exemplifies the forward-thinking spirit of the Teng Prize.

About Dr. Lang 郎珺:
Dr. Jun Lang is an assistant professor at Pomona College and a linguist whose work spans language structure, semantics, sociolinguistics, and second-language acquisition. She has developed and taught a wide range of courses at Pomona, including “Chinese Language and Gender,” “Social Issues in China Today,” and “Introduction to Pop Culture in China.” Her research is published in top international journals, and she actively contributes to the field through editorial and peer-review service for leading publications in linguistics and Chinese language education.

We congratulate Dr. Lang on her outstanding contribution to the field and thank her for inspiring innovation in Chinese language teaching.
