The speaking sections of all lessons in the Integrated Chinese Multimedia Companion CD-ROM will no longer work without your computer being connected to the Internet. Formerly, there was the option to download software that would enable you to not have to be online - this is no longer an option. Furthermore, the speaking sections will not work at all unless the steps below are taken.
Adobe has altered how the Flash player program interacts with outside Internet resources, and it has also changed the Flash Communication Server MX to the point where it can no longer be used with the IC CD-ROM. These are the reasons why you must be connected to the Internet, and why you must adjust your Flash program settings in order to use the speaking activities.
Before we get to the instructions, be sure you are using the 1.1 version of the IC CD-ROM. Otherwise, you will get an error that they are not using the most recent version of Flash, when, in fact, you are using a too recent of a version. If you purchased the software after March, 2005, you should be fine. Also, make sure you have the latest version of the Flash player installed. Click here to visit the Flash player download page.
