Small Wonders

Large Strides in Reading Arabic
by Mahmoud Gaafar, Jane Wightwick
Description

Small Wonders is a beautifully illustrated series of graded Arabic readers particularly appropriate for learners in grades 3–9 and heritage environments. Each book includes cultural information and interesting facts about Arabic cultures, with stunning images to provide context and visual stimulation.  Older learners will also find these readers useful and attractive.

Arabic vocabulary and grammar are very carefully controlled to suit the level of the learner, starting with short simple sentences and the most common words in Level 1, and introducing more sophisticated language and content in Level 2 and Level 3. Key words from earlier levels are often reused in more advanced books, improving  students' retension of Arabic vocabulary.

Each book includes cultural information and interesting facts about Arabic cultures, with stunning images to provide context and visual stimulation. In addition, the content of Small Wonders is aligned with US National Science Education Standards. This correlation allows students to connect the material with content from other classes, reinforcing both their Arabic reading comprehension skills and their knowledge of the subject matter.

Reviews

The books are full of very interesting facts about different subjects. …Students were able to read the books on their own by looking up the words from the back of the book.
