Official Rules, Terms, & Conditions
No purchase is necessary to enter or win. By entering the Cheng & Tsui Superstar Karaoke Contest (the “Contest”), you agree to be bound by these official rules, terms, and conditions, and the decisions of Cheng & Tsui (the "Sponsor"), which are final and binding in all respects. This Contest and eligibility are subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and may be void where prohibited by law.
Eligibility
Contestants must be:
- 13 years old or older at the time of the contest. Verification of your age may be required at the time you submit your entry
- currently enrolled in a Chinese or Japanese language course at the time of the contest
Contest entries must not contain inappropriate language or subject matter. Inappropriate entries will be disqualified at the discretion of the Sponsor.
Employees, directors, officers or agents of Cheng & Tsui and members of the immediate families (parent, child, sibling and spouse of each) or households of any of the above are prohibited from entering the Contest.
Contest Period
The Contest begins at 9:00 AM Eastern Standard Time ("EST") on February 23, 2021 and ends at 11:59 PM (EST) on April 30, 2021 ("Contest Period"). Judging of entries will begin at 12:00 AM (EST) on April 16, 2021 and end at 5:00 PM (EST) on April 21, 2021 (the "Judging Period"). Open public voting will begin at 8:00 AM (EST) on April 23, 2021 and end at 5:00 PM (EST) on April 28, 2021 (the "Voting Period"). All Contest times will be measured by the computer system clock. Online access via the Contest website (as detailed below) is required for detailed information and instructions.
Participation
- Vocal performances must be in Chinese or Japanese.
- The voices heard must be those of the performers featured in the video; contestants must use songs with the original artist’s vocals removed.
- The video must be an original creation of the contestant(s).
- Entries with inappropriate content (language, gestures, or subject matter) will be disqualified at the discretion of the Sponsor.
By entering the Contest, Entrants grant the Sponsor permission to use all submission materials for promotional purposes, in any media and venue, without compensation, including but not limited to websites, blogs, social media, news media, public screening, and other presentations.
Selection of the Winners
Entries received via the Video Submission Form after 11:59 PM EST on April 15, 2021 will be deemed ineligible for participation in the Contest. Any attempt at entry except as above stated shall be void.
Judging: Submissions will be narrowed down to the top five finalists by a qualified panel of judges named by Cheng & Tsui. Judging will be based on presentational creativity, singing performance, and the language performance of the contestant(s) (based on declared proficiency level). These finalists will be decided upon and posted on the Website by 8:00 AM EST April 23, 2021. The Judges’ decision will be final.
Public Voting: One grand prize winner and two runners-up (each a “Winner” and collectively “Winners”) will be chosen by the online community. Starting at 8:00 AM EST, April 23, 2021, any member of the public can vote for their favorite video. A valid email address is required to vote. Voting will end at 5:00 PM Eastern Time on April 28, 2021.
Notification of Winners
The Sponsor will notify each potential winner of their prize by email within twenty-four hours of the close of the Voting Period. Each potential winner will be required to claim their prize and sign and return to Sponsor a liability and publicity release, a W-9 tax form, and such other documentation as Sponsor may require within seven (7) business days of notification (the “Required Documents”). Upon receipt of the prize claim and Required Documents, Sponsor will deem the potential winner to be a Winner. Entry in the Contest constitutes permission to use the Winner’s name and likeness for publicity purposes, without further compensation, where permitted.
Winners’ List
At the end of the Contest, visit the Cheng & Tsui website to view the winning submission(s). Each Winner consents to the disclosure of his or her name and city and state of residence to anyone who requests a list of Winners under this section.
Additional Terms and Rules
By entering or participating in the Contest, Contestants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and Conditions. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for electronic, hardware, programming or software malfunctions, or failures, internet or network connections, accessibility or availability, technical failures of any kind, unauthorized human intervention, the incorrect or inaccurate capture of any Entry or other information, or for the failure to capture any such information.
Sponsor is not responsible for (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by You or other Contestants, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the Entry process or the Contest; (3) technical or human error, which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing of Entries.
Sponsor is not responsible for late, incomplete, incomprehensible, invalid, technically incompatible or corrupt, or misdirected Entries, all of which are void. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt of an Entry by the Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process, operation of the Contest, or acting in violation of the Official Rules and Conditions in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running, as planned, by reason of infection by virus, tampering, or other unauthorized technical or human intervention, fraud, technical or mechanical failures, or any other causes which, in the sole evaluation of Sponsor, may compromise the administration, security, fairness or integrity of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest, and select the winner of the Contest, from the legitimate Entries received prior to the action taken, or in other such manner as deemed fair and appropriate by Sponsor, as allowed by law. Sponsor's failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that or any other provision.
Contestants must complete any release forms or permissions agreements required by their school or institution; this is not the responsibility of the Sponsor.
The terms of these Official Rules and Conditions will be binding on each Entrant, his/her legal representative, heirs, beneficiaries, executors, successors and/or assigns.
