Open for Business, Volume 1 is a textbook & exercise book set filled with authentic, everyday business expressions along with practical explanations aimed at assisting students in mastering the subtle nuances of Chinese in the workplace. The twelve lessons in Volume 1 provide an overview of China’s changing macro-economic environment and current business practices relating to finance and marketing.

Each lesson contains a text reading and brief background on a specific topic related to Chinese commerece, followed by a vocabulary list and explanation of important terms along with a section relating to the usage of synonyms. The textbook also includes a comprehensive index of vocabulary, grammar terms, and synonyms for easy cross-referencing with the lessons. The Startup Business Chinese, Level 1 textbook comprises 12 units covering basic daily corporate interactions and business-related social exchanges.

Each unit starts with a brief introduction describing the setting and learning objectives for that chapter, then moves on to two situational dialogues, two vocabulary lists, and a sentence pattern and grammar section. All the dialogues, grammar, and vocabulary are designed for beginners, and emphasize business communication: negotiating, socializing, and establishing and maintaining good relationships. Beyond language acquisition, each lesson provides students with extensive cultural points to help navigate cultural differences in business and daily life. Level 1 covers over 600 vocabulary words.
