Author of Flying with Chinese, will share her strategies and experiences in creating content-related curriculum for teaching Chinese in the K-6 classroom, incorporating standards, implementing backward design, and promoting principles of story form and thematic planning. There will be discussion with samples and demonstrations, showing participants how to use any textbook to bring life to the classroom!

Technical details:

1. System Requirements

OS 10.4 or later recommended (may also work on earlier versions of OS X). 1 MB free disk space.

2. Installing the Flash Card Program

Download the FlashCards for Mac.dmg file from this webpage. Double-click the FlashCards for OS X disk image. Drag the contents to your Applications folder.

3. Starting the Program

From the Applications folder, double-click the FlashCards application within the FlashCards folder. Go to the File menu and choose Open. In the Open dialog box, choose the lesson you would like to study from the AIJ flash cards (all kanji learned in Adventures in Japanese ) or the AP* flash cards (all kanji required for the AP* exam).

4. Known Issues

You may encounter problems installing the program on a machine for multiple users to access. We are working on correcting this problem. In the meantime, we suggest having each individual user download the program to his or her own Applications folder.

If you encounter a technical problem, please contact us and describe the problem so that we can correct it in the next version of this software. Help is also available from the Help menu within the program. This program is still in development and is provided "as is" without express or implied warranty of any kind.

This PDF is a list of the kanji you should know for the AP* Japanese Language and Culture exam, complete with hiragana, English definitions, and cross-references to Adventures in Japanese.

Here you can download free electronic files of the supplementary readings from each chapter of Chinese For Tomorrow. With these readings on your computer, you can use online dictionaries and Chinese language learning software to help build your reading comprehension skills!

The readings are available in Microsoft Word format, in either simplified or traditional characters. To avoid any problems reading the Chinese fonts in these documents, please download the PC version if you will be working on a PC and the Mac version if you will be working on a Macintosh.
