Material Culture of the Formosan Aborigines
Because of their long isolation from other cultural influences, the Formosan Aborigines represent an older cultural stratum of Southeast Asia. The study of these people therefore occupies an important place in the study of the whole of Southeast Asian culture. Here, in one volume, the material culture of all groups of Formosan aborigines is introduced in English. Means of subsistence, daily life, utensils, weapons, clothing, adornment, houses, art and boats are described in text, drawings, and color photographs. The early relationship of the Formosan Aborigines with other cultures-and the influence of the East Asian mainland-are also discussed. The detailed illustrations are culled from the Taiwan University Collection, and represent artifacts and items unable to be viewed anywhere else in the world. 20 full page color plates and 135 full page black and white drawings.
