Learn Chinese Through Music

The songs of China provide a window into Chinese language and culture. Using Learn Chinese Through Music, students will forge a more meaningful connection with the spirit of China as they listen to and sing Chinese songs, broadening their vocabulary along the way. This book and CD set presents 16 songs from a wide variety of sources, including folk traditions, children’s music, and contemporary pop musicians. Each song features a short introduction describing its cultural significance, followed by the musical notation, lyrics in traditional and simplified Chinese and pinyin, and an English translation. In addition, each entry includes a vocabulary list, notes on usage and pronunciation, and helpful exercises, encouraging language learning and cultural discussion.
