Language of the Dragon is a two-volume primer series for students of Classical Chinese.
The author offers a systematic and clear analysis of classical Chinese (wenyan) grammar, using twenty readings from texts of the Spring and Autumn, Warring States, Qin, and early Han periods. The explanatory text is written in baihua (modern Chinese), and each reading invites learners to make connections between modern and classical Chinese.
Each volume includes written exercises to enhance students’ language skills. The equivalent of three years' study of modern Chinese is assumed. Text is written in traditional Chinese characters and English, and is supplemented with pinyin vocabulary glossaries and four in-depth, grammar-oriented appendices.
Upon completion of this series, learners will be able to discuss academic and scholarly topics articulately and read classical materials with ease.
