Hankuko, Level 1 Textbook
Ideal For: Beginning-level college or adult learners of Korean.
Hankuko 1 is the first level in the Hankuko series for learners of Korean as a foreign or heritage language. Each chapter includes engaging conversations, relevant vocabulary, clear grammatical explanations, and pattern exercises to practice new skills. The Hankuko series pays special attention to everyday conversational situations, and explores topics that a student would be likely to encounter in Korea. Notes on Korean culture and the Korean way of thinking provide opportunities for enhancing interpersonal communication and cultural skills.
The Conversation section is made up of 10 lessons, where each lesson has five sub-divisions, each sub-division has 6 lines (3 conversational exchanges), and the last sub-division is a prose summary for review purposes.
New vocabulary is introduced in steps according to its frequency, and the most important words for each topic are emphasized. New words are listed below each new conversation in order to facilitate recognition.
The Grammar section has been designed to facilitate a smooth learning process; grammatical elements are introduced in steps from the easier and more basic to the more advanced and difficult. Each sub-division introduces and explains the new grammatical elements which appear in the conversations.
The grammatical explanations, complete with additional helpful examples, will help the student with problems of usage, taking into account the student’s native language. They also contextualize the grammatical patterns, showing how they are used and under what circumstances.
The Pattern Exercises help students practice their new language skills until they can use the language freely and automatically. Practicing new grammar points within sentence structures helps students not only to put their grammatical knowledge into practice, but also to use new vocabulary and master pronunciation.
A vocabulary index and a grammar index are included for easy reference.
