Success with Chinese, Level 1: Listening & Speaking

Success with Chinese helps you get around independently in China, going far beyond “survival Chinese.” To that end, the first three lessons of Level 1: Listening & Speaking start with the real nitty-gritty: pinyin, counting, and money. Seven additional, very practical lessons explore such topics as calling for room service, ordering in restaurants, getting directions, and telling time. Two audio CDs bound into the book contain audio recordings of dialogues, new vocabulary, and exercises in each lesson, to reinforce listening and comprehension skills. Simplified characters are presented in the book but are always accompanied by their pinyin pronunciation. Level 1: Listening & Speaking, which is typically used as a semester or summer course, teaches around 400 vocabulary items.
