This is an excellent online resource for looking up unfamiliar Japanese words or figuring out how to translate an English term into Japanese! http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/%7Ejwb/wwwjdic.html

And if you want a digital version for your computer, instead of going to the website, you can find out about this dictionary here: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/j_edict.html

I took Japanese for three years and found it indispensable. The kanji look-up tool is fantastic though students writing essays should be careful about its use, since one word can often have several translations, some of which could be not quite right.
