The MLA's interactive Language Map of the United States is a fascinating way to look at where speakers of various languages live in the US. It's based on the answer to the question "What language do you speak at home?" in the 2000 census data. You can zoom in to see information for individual states, counties, or even zip codes, or compare languages and places. This is a great resource for teachers of heritage students or anyone who's interested in the linguistic and cultural makeup of the United States.
