This problem can be fixed by downloading and installing the radicals.zip patch (below).
After downloading the patch, follow these instructions:
1. Copy all the software files from the CD onto a folder in your computer's hard drive
2. Unzip the radicals patch into the same folder where you copied your CD files.
3. If prompted to "Replace old folder radicals with new folder radicals," select yes. If not prompted, simply replace the entire "radicals" folder with the new "radicals" folder contained in the patch.
4. Click on the "main" icon on your new folder (not the CD) to start the software again.
5. Make sure you've chosen "simplified character display" in the lower left hand corner of the screen.
6. Go back to the "radicals" section of the software and now check and see if you have simplified characters. Make sure that you're running the software from your hard drive, which contains the new radicals folder, rather than from your CD drive.
Note: You must have the Multimedia Companion installed on your hard drive for this patch to work. If you run Multimedia Companion from a CD-ROM, please create a folder for the Multimedia Companion on your hard drive and copy all of the CD-ROM contents into this folder.
