Font Viewing Trouble in Chinese Odyssey Volume 1 CD-ROM with Virtual PC

To fix this problem, download the Volume 1 Multimedia CD-ROM Patch (below.)

Alternatively, you can move the location of the fonts folder on your computer to fix this problem. The correct fonts are all located in a folder on your computer (assuming the standard install location ) at C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Fonts. You should copy all the files in that folder to 11 other folders, listed below. This problem has been fixed in Volumes 2 and up, so newer users should not have to do this.

  • The 11 other folders are:
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson1\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson2\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson3\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson4\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson5\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson6\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson7\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson8\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson9\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\Lesson10\Medialib\font
  • C:\Program Files\Chinese Odyssey\Volume1\TOC\Medialib\font
This fixes the problem when using Virtual PC. While we do not specifically endorse running Chinese Odyssey software on a Mac within Virtual PC, it is possible to get it to work. It is very, very slow, but should hopefully improve with the new dual-core (Intel) Macintosh processors. Virtual PC performance will be almost equivalent to a non-emulated environment with these new machines.
