Dear Friends and Customers,
As Cheng & Tsui enters its fourth decade and interest in Asian languages and cultures continues to rise, our mission of “Bringing Asia to the World” has become more relevant than ever. Whether you’ve been a loyal customer from the very beginning or this is your first time receiving our catalog, I look forward to offering you the very best educational materials for years to come.
My own experiences have taught me that learning new languages can open countless doors and foster greater global understanding. As advances in communication, travel, and trade bring nations ever closer, language and culture learning have become even more important. It is my hope that Cheng & Tsui can develop the educational tools for all learners to become true global citizens—and to realize a world of opportunities.
Over the years, you have inspired and encouraged me to publish innovative products for learners of every age. By combining your suggestions with the latest developments in technology, pedagogy, and instructional methodology, we have strived to produce 21st century learning materials.
This fall, I am especially excited about the release of two multimedia supplements for the Third Edition of our bestselling Integrated Chinese series (pp. 4–5). The interactive Online Workbooks (p. 6) bring content to a new format, offering immediate feedback and automatic grading. Two new Integrated Chinese DVDs (p. 7) deliver an engaging, live-action interpretation of the textbook with dialogues filmed in natural settings.
Also new, The Key to Kanji (p. 46) traces the fascinating evolution of over 1,100 Japanese characters, while Strive for a 5: AP* Chinese Practice Tests (p. 16) prepares students for the exam with eight full practice tests and free audio downloads. Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China (p. 34), a DVD developed by the Boston Children’s Museum, takes viewers inside traditional and contemporary Chinese culture through the stories of four Chinese teenagers. These are just a few of the exciting new products you will find within these pages.
As always, I’d be delighted to hear from you. Please e-mail me your suggestions, feedback, and most of all, your success stories!
Gratefully yours,
Jill Cheng
