General Operating Responsibilities: Plan, lead, manage, and provide hands-on execution of all editorial, production, and manufacturing activities involved in publishing quality educational products about Asia in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific Operating Responsibilities:
1.
Oversee the planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of new
projects, revisions, and reprints, from acquisitions through bound book
stage.
2. Oversee, train, and lead a team of in-house
editorial-production-manufacturing staff and outside freelancers to
ensure that projects stay on schedule and within budget and are handled
thoroughly and accurately.
3. When necessary, provide hands-on
execution of projects in editorial/production/manufacturing by helping
to edit copy, provide design feedback, obtain vendor estimates, issue
detailed instructions for design/printing/manufacturing, or other
duties as required.
4. Communicate and coordinate with editors, authors, editorial and design freelancers, typesetters, and printers as needed.
5.
Oversee the flow of information in-house to ensure that Marketing and
Customer Service departments are provided with timely advance product
launch information.
6. Collaborate with the Marketing team on the
production of a bi-annual product catalog and the development of
company website. Train staff to write and proofread advertisements,
publicity releases, website copy, and promotional materials for
accuracy.
7. Create, streamline, and improve procedures and efficiency within the editorial, production, and manufacturing departments.
Required Experience:
"
Minimum three to five years of experience managing a team in the
editorial/production and manufacturing of print materials and/or
software, preferably in an educational publishing environment.
" Highly organized and attentive to detail with record of meeting deadlines and budgets while producing quality materials.
" Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, electronic proofreading workflow in Adobe Acrobat, and standard proofreading marks.
" Ability to wear multiple hats, be flexible, and work well with others on a team.
" Excellent communication and leadership skills, especially in planning, training, and supporting a team of young staff.
" Facility with both Mac and Windows platforms.
" Knowledge of Asian language and culture a plus.
